Nadja Velušček and Anja Medved are mother and daughter, documentary filmmakers, and keen researchers of the Slovenian-Italian border region. They have created an extensive body of video and film work in which they address issues of national identity, explore the relationship between collective and intimate social memory, and address the elusive concept of borders. Since the Velušček-Medved duo mainly produces medium-length documentary films, we have created a series of film pairs to provide an overview of their creative oeuvre. We wanted to design the programme, collectively titled Zone of Transition, in such a way that the juxtaposed films would articulate the concept of borders and borderlands each time anew, and we divided it into seven sections: Gorizia / Nova Gorica, Memory / Document, Environment / Territory, Water Level / Watercourse, Peace / War, Violence / Compassion, Departures / Arrivals.
