Lecture of Barbara Borčić in Casa della Confraternita

The exhibition Videospotting and the presentation of research, documentary and archival project Videodokument organized by SCCA-Ljubljana was the first conceptual and complete presentation of Slovene video art in Italy.

The selection included a wide range of works showing shifts in understanding and usage of video as a media of artistic expression from its beginning in 1969 up until 2004. The works were selected specifically for the ambience of the old shelter in Udine: from first experimental works and technological researches, documentary on multimedia alternative scene in the 80’s to different video genres and new media works.

The exhibition and lecture was a part of the festival Dotik Festival: Arte e cultura slovena (The Touch: Slovene Art and Culture) in Udine (Italy) that also presented also film screenings, music and literary events, dance performances, exhibition by Slovene architect Vojteh Ravnikar and discussions on urban culture.
We were glad to see that our program met with a great interest and good response, the lecture was well attended and the exhibition was crowded by active public that vividly commented on its content.
In Italy, the Slovene video art has been presented on festivals and exhibitions quite regularly since the 70s, among them at: Contemporanea in Rome (1974), Cult video: Visioni margandali in Bari (1985), Biennale della cultura giovanile mediterranea, Bologna (1986), Hicetnunc, San Vito al Tagliamento, Pordenone (1997), Video Film Festival, Udine (1997), Campo video, Venice (1999) and on festivals Film video monitor in Gorizia and Alpe Adria Cinema in Trieste.

A more complex presentation of Slovene video art was shown in Udine in 1994 in frame of Videokids 94: Nuove tendenze dell’immagande elettronica presenting the program From Alternative Scene to Art Video (1992-1994) produced by SCCA-Ljubljana.
